Fishing at Largs

Sea-angling boat trips are available from Largs Marina and the Promenade. The British record for Cod was caught of the Gantocks a few miles north of Largs. The fast currents tides off the Cumbraes and Bute provide good mixed fishing in season and good shore fishing can be enjoyed all along the coast. Within just a few minutes drive from Largs, fly and bait fishermen have a great choice of waters, some regularly restocked with specimen rainbows whilst others still offer wild brown trout fishing. Inverclyde National Sports Centre in Largs also provide fly-fishing lessons for beginners at very reasonable rates.

Unusally for an area with good sea and trout fishing there is also excellent all season coarse fishing and some of the best pike fishing in the UK is available at Castle Semple Loch 20 minutes drive from Largs and of course we cannot forget Loch Lomond, less than an hours drive and home of the UK’s record pike!
