Great Cumbrae - Gem of the Clyde

Great Cumbrae

Great Cumbrae Island welcomes families for its laid-back style of adventure, with the main family activity of safe cycling around the island or visiting The Garrison Centre. The small town of Millport features two arching beaches and small harbour, easily reached by bus or cycle. The Cathedral of the Isles with an interesting history that dates back to early Christianity is in Millport. Bike hire is available for the 11 mile circular coastal tour of the island and well recommended as way of appreciating this little gem of the Clyde.

In September Millport hosts a country and western festival with late ferries running back to the mainland. The streets have a great welcoming party feel and cowboy hats are not mandatory for enjoying the fun.

The ferry leaves from Largs and is just few minutes from the hotel along the promenade. The ferry departs at 15 minute intervals throughout summer and 30 minute intervals during the winter.the day from Wemyss Bay to Rothesay taking 25 minutes..
