Island Hopping
From a starting point at the Woodhouse Hotel, ferries to the islands are all within a short drive. The islands of Arran, the Cumbraes and Bute are spectualarily beautiful. For lovers of the outdoors – from bird watchers to climbers the landscape can vary in just a few miles from crisp sandy beaches to famous mountain ranges. All have wonderful attractions for all the family; choose from just sitting and pottering around by the sea to visiting what many would say are the UK’s most treasured and spectacular stately homes. However many visit the islands just for the ferry trips alone. All of the Clyde ferries command great views and within a 20 minute drive from Largs, you can journey from Gourock to Dunoon, the Gateway to the Highlands, Wemyss Bay to the Isle of Bute, Ardrossan to Brodick and from Largs itself to Great Cumbrae all by scheduled services and during the summer months there is also the possibility of seeing whales, dolphins and porpoises.
Information can be obtained from the Caledonian MacBrayne Hebridean and Clyde Ferries website.
